Editorial Director, News & Events
Aurora Photos is looking for the right person with a keen desire to be at the center of news and event photography; someone that can see both the big picture and gets what needs doing on a day-to-day basis. A qualified candidate would bring solid experience in editorial sales in the US magazine and newspaper marketplace, as well as an understanding of the current commercial stock industry and media partner relationships, as Aurora represents some of the best editorial photo agencies from Europe and beyond. We are looking for someone with a vision of the future that would drive them and help answer the questions: How do we succeed today and still plan for the future? How do feature stories evolve as online visual storytelling? Who will be the key editorial clients of the future? What will be the new business models? How does a small, but growing company compete with big agencies? How does a company working in a traditional manner in a waning market sustain growth while shifting gears?
This position, Editorial Director, News & Events, based in Portland, Maine, encompasses the following:
- Lead sales of all Aurora photography in the editorial news and event space, including assignments in conjunction with the NYC assignment division
- Recommendation, development, and execution of effective and efficient sales plans
- Establish and maintain communications and relations with editorial clients at the highest levels with regards to all business solutions with a keen eye to the shifting marketplace
- Report progress on a weekly basis and establish new effective reporting procedures
- Identify new, high potential news and event photographers
Position Requirements:
- Established and experience sale manager professional with excellent knowledge of the worldwide, editorial stock and features marketplace, particularly newspaper and magazine publishing in the USA
- Ability to communicate clearly in person, on the phone and through written documentation
- Ability to develop and maintain relationships with Aurora's clients and staff along multiple levels and remotely
High level, technical computer aptitude, solution driven, understands need for constant improvement, strategic thinker
